Make your first client film in 30 days.
Been filming for fun for a while, but never been paid for it? I've spent 15 years making films for clients, and I'll walk you through making your first one for a real local business, and turning it into the proof that gets you paid for the next one.
- Know exactly what to offer: one short film every local business needs
- Find a business and book the shoot with word-for-word outreach scripts
- Shoot, edit and deliver it like a professional, then use it to land paid work
What happened when they tried it.
Real students, in their own words.
"After making my 'Who We Are' film for a flower shop, they've already asked me back to shoot for them. My first returning client!"
"Jumping from photography to video was always a bit of a barrier for me and I never felt truly confident with the basics until Ross sorted that out. I can't thank him enough."
"I've been working in the industry for over 4 years. The 30 Day System gave me new angles to think about, especially around sales. I decided to put my prices up, and a client went for it."
You're not selling "video". You're selling one film.
Every local business needs to explain who they are, and almost none of them can. The Who We Are film does it in 60 to 90 seconds. It's the film you'll make in your first 30 days.
What goes in it
- The owner, in interview. Why they started, what they stand for, and what makes them the best at it.
- Them doing what they do. The work, the hands, the craft.
- Beauty shots of the business. The space, the details, the feel of the place.
Why it's the right first film
- Every local business needs one, and most don't have one.
- The structure is the same every time, so your first shoot isn't guesswork.
- One interview and a half-day shoot. The kit you already own is enough.
Not a filmmaking course. An operating system.
You already know how to shoot. This is everything around the camera: what to offer, who to ask, what to say, and how to deliver.
From Hobbyist to Professional
Stop learning and start operating. The skills that actually matter for client work, and why the kit you already own is good enough.
What You're Actually Selling
The Who We Are film, why your first one is free, and the one question that tells you whether a business is right for you.
The Local Business Goldmine
Find businesses with the Google Maps method, message them the right way, and arrange the shoot like a professional from the first message.
Shoot, Edit & Deliver With Confidence
The interview-first approach, the B-roll system, and an edit structure that stops you second-guessing every cut.
You've been shooting for a while. You've just never been paid for it.
You've had the camera a while. You've filmed holidays, friends' events, maybe a few favours for people you know. You can get a decent shot, and you've watched more tutorials than you can count.
What you haven't done is film for a real business. Not because you can't, but because nobody has shown you what to offer, who to ask, or what to say. The gap between shooting for fun and getting paid isn't skill. It's the system in the middle, and that's what this course is.
This is not for you if
- You've just bought your first camera and you're still learning the settings. Get a few months of shooting in first, then come back.
- You want a course on cinematic technique or colour grading. That's not what this is.
- You expect clients to find you without you asking.
- You want passive income. This is active client work.
Sound like you? Then this is exactly where to start.
What it looks like when someone actually does it.
"I'm a delivery driver, but I've always wanted to pursue videography. I made a film a while back for a restaurant, but I had no idea what it was about and neither did the owner!
This course showed me the 'Who We Are' film, and just having that as a plan with the frameworks Ross gave me, I felt much more confident finding proper work.
Fast forward to yesterday: a local bike shop liked my film so much they asked me back to create some social content. Feeling another step closer to my goal now!"
Work through the modules. Use the templates. Send the outreach. If you don't feel it was worth far more than $27, email me at [email protected] within 30 days and I'll refund you. No questions, no hard feelings.
I can offer this because I know the system works. The only way you lose is by doing nothing.
+Why is the first film free?
+Do I need expensive gear?
+What if I work full-time?
+What if I'm introverted or hate selling?
+Can't I just learn this free on YouTube?
+What if I don't land a client?
I used to be a chef. Sixty-hour weeks, barely £20K a year, and every spare minute spent watching filmmaking tutorials and dreaming about directing. I applied to film school twice and got rejected both times.
Fifteen years later, I've worked with Netflix, Google, Red Bull and the BBC, and I'm based out of a beautiful studio in Leith, Edinburgh. These days, most of my work comes direct from clients.
The turning point was realising that local businesses everywhere need someone who can show up, listen, and turn what they do into a clear short film. Most filmmakers were too busy obsessing over technique to notice.
That's what this course is built on. It's the same system I use in my own business, and the one I teach the filmmakers I coach.
These days I've shaped my work around a 20-hour week, so I have time for my young kids and the projects I love. Having a system is what makes that possible.
If you're where I was, the chef watching tutorials on his break, this is your first step.
